The New York Jets are on a quarterback hunt this offseason after moving on from Aaron Rodgers, and where the team looks will be interesting.
There are free agent options in Sam Darnold , Russell Wilson, Kirk Cousins, and Justin Fields, but Tyrod Taylor and forgotten man Jordan Travis are already on the roster.
And it is here where the quarterback search could take an interesting and surprising turn.
Don’t forget about Travis in this search.
“The Jets are resetting their quarterback depth chart in the post-Aaron Rodgers era, and the player no one is talking about is Jordan Travis, a 2024 fifth-round pick,” ESPN’s Rich Cimini writes. “He’s a wild card because he didn’t practice or play this past season, but the new staff is said to be excited about working with him. He was a dynamic player at Florida State, where he accounted for 27 touchdowns (passing and rushing) and only two interceptions in 2023 before a gruesome ankle injury ended his college career.”
A proper dual-threat quarterback prior to his nasty injury, Travis could be the ace in the Jets’ deck, and yes, it would be quite the move to have him lead the franchise.
Travis is good when on the move, and his athleticism could be something that new offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand could utilize. Still with a good arm, Travis will need to hit the ground running this offseason.
Yes, it is a long shot, but should he be in consideration? For most, that is a no, but the new regime has a different way of doing things, and with the front office excited about working with him, who knows what the 2025 season could hold for Travis.
A wild card, indeed.
