The Houston Texans did not have a great Divisional round game against the Kansas City Chiefs. They did have some situations where they could have played better. But on the other hand, the likes of Patrick Mahomes and his teammates benefited from some officiating mistakes.
One blatant benefit the Chiefs took advantage of was when Texans defenders were flagged for an ‘Unnecessary Roughness’ penalty after they seemed to collide with Patrick Mahomes. But replays showed that the two defenders collided with each other and the Chiefs QB wasn’t touched.
That led to some uproar from fans watching as they felt it was all too evident that referees were trying to penalize the Texans on borderline fouls. Thankfully, another flop from the three-time Super Bowl MVP winning QB did not draw one.
However, that did not stop from almost everyone on the Texans side to make their opinions clear. They clarified that their team was facing not only the Chiefs but also the referees in that game. Seeing all these complaints, Chiefs cornerback Jaylen Watsondecided to hit back via X.
I miss when grown men took they losses like a man a new day and age though…
He believes the Houston Texans players should not be complaining after losing. Rather, they should take the loss like grown men and look forward to next season. The comment has garnered seven million views to date, with fans bashing the defensive back for writing this cocky line when it was evident that referees favored his team.
Referee Clay Martin clarifies ‘Unnecessary Roughness’ penalty
The lead official for the Texans-Chiefs Divisional round was Clay Martin. That Unnecessary Roughness penalty was what reporter Aaron Wilson asked Martin during their pool report questioning. When asked what he saw that led to the penalty, the official replied.
So, he slid, obviously, and when he slides, he is considered defenseless. The onus is on the defender. I had forcible contact to the hairline, to the helmet.
