After a successful showdown in March Madness, the former Kansas State Wildcats star, Serena Sundell, is celebrating her career highs of the 2024-25 season. Rocking a classic black gown with a sweetheart neckline at The Shed in NYC, the six-feet-two player became the overall number 26 pick during the third round of the 2025 WNBA draft.
The draft was coincidentally lucky for Serena, who was selected by none other than the Seattle Storm. This announcement drew several heads, especially since her brother is also associated with the Seattle team.
A reporter pointed out the apparent similarity between the siblings’ teams. She rightly asked Sundell if everything worked out just fine. “I would say so, yes,” she told the reporter. “My parents are thrilled, I am thrilled. It’ll be perfect, yes,” Sundell added.
Meanwhile, the Storm posted on their official Instagram account with the caption, “A family affair in Seattle,” as a chirpy Sundell and WNBA Commissioner, Cathy Englebert, flaunt Serena’s #25 Storm jersey.

ESPN recently posted a collage of the Sundell siblings on Instagram and wrote, “Serena Sundell was drafted to the Seattle Storm, where her brother, Jalen Sundell, currently plays for the Seahawks.”
Serena Sundell has an older sibling, Jalen Sundell, who also represents Seattle. Unlike her sister, Jalen is an NFL player for the Seattle Seahawks. A free agent rookie for the Seahawks since 2024, Jalen plays in the team’s offensive tackle position. During his college career at North Dakota State University, the eldest of the Sundell siblings was awarded First-Team FCS All-American and a First-Team All-MVFC selection in 2023.
While her brother was at North Dakota University, Serena played hoops at the Kansas State Wildcats. Known for single-handedly leading the team into the Sweet 16, Serena was crowned with a second consecutive first-team All-Big 12 honor and the AP All-American honorable mention this year. Serena scored an average of 14.1 points, 7.3 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game during the March Madness before the drafts. Her efforts paid off and how!
How many siblings does Serena Sundell have?
Serena and Jalen Sundell are the only siblings. Growing up in the quiet town of Maryville, Missouri, the siblings were exposed to a life of sports from a very tender age, thanks to their upbringing. Their father, Bob Sundell, tried his hand at high jump and basketball during college days, whereas their mother, Korena Sundell, represented Missouri & ST in women’s basketball.
As the siblings grew older, Jalen developed an inclination for football that later turned into a passionate career choice for the now-NFL player.
On the other hand, an inspired Serena followed in her parents’ footsteps as she decided to step into the world of basketball. A promising player since her high school days, only time will tell how this new phase in the Storm rookie’s career trajectory plays out.
