The Cleveland Browns are constantly rumored to be interested in a new quarterback, and rightfully so, given their starter currently is Kenny Pickett.
One option that is constantly rumored to join the Browns is Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who the team would take with the second overall pick in the draft.
Another option that has been rumored to join the Browns through the trade market is Falcons veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins.
For a while, that rumor died down, but the rumors were reignited when Cousins was spotted in Cleveland at a Chipotle.
The Browns should make the rumor a reality given their quarterback position, no matter what strategy they decide to take in the NFL draft.
First off, Cousins can be a great culture guy, something the Browns would benefit greatly from. Most NFL fans have seen the clips of him celebrating after wins with teammates, and of course his famous line “You like that!” back when he played with Washington.
He also has appeared on Netflix’s “The Quarterback” where he was shown in a positive way as well.
Cousins seems like an overall great guy and teammate, likely a big reason the Falcons are hesitant to trade him despite announcing Michael Penix as the starting quarterback.
For the right price, the Browns can acquire Cousins to be a mentor for many players on the roster.
He also has a chance to help the Browns win more games and be flexible in the draft.
Acquiring Cousins could allow the team to feel more comfortable taking a better prospect than any of the available quarterbacks, like Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter. They could then take a quarterback later in the draft, like a Jaxon Dart or Tyler Shough.
Cousins also mentioned how he was playing through injury towards the end of last season, which could be a big reason his play had a sudden drop-off and got him benched.
If that is true, Cousins may even be a good starting quarterback next season, something the team has lacked for a long time in their franchise’s history.
As long as the price isn’t too high, the Browns would greatly benefit from trading for Cousins, whether they draft Shedeur Sanders second overall or not. He’d provide a great locker room presence, flexibility in the draft, and even potentially good play on the field to compete for a playoff spot in the difficult AFC North.
