Super Bowl 59 was a celebratory one for fans of the Philadelphia Eagles, Oklahoma Sooners, and Alabama Crimson Tide. The Eagles demolished Kansas City, 40-22, and Jalen Hurts walked away with the Super Bowl MVP trophy.
ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit shared an interesting thought after the game about the former Alabama and Oklahoma quarterback. After seeing Hurts tally 293 yards and three touchdowns, Herbstreit proposed a move about the dual-threat presence.
“They should make a movie one day about Jalen Hurts career,” Herbstreit wrote. “Guy is 1st class and a true inspiration for so many! Congrats @Eagles.”
Fans of Hurts, especially those who have followed his journey since his college days, like Herbstreit, recognize the inspirational nature of his story. He started at Alabama, where he guided the Crimson Tide to the national championship game as a freshman, though they ultimately lost to Clemson.
In his sophomore year, Hurts led Alabama back to the championship against Georgia but was replaced by Tua Tagovailoa during the second half; Tagovailoa would secure the victory for the team. The subsequent year, after losing his starting spot, Hurts transferred to Oklahoma to complete his senior season.
At Oklahoma, he had the most successful year of his college career, throwing for 3,851 yards and amassing 32 touchdowns with just eight interceptions. His outstanding performance earned him a second-place finish in the Heisman voting and propelled OU into the College Football Playoff.
This success caught the attention of NFL teams, leading to his selection in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Eagles, where he became the starting quarterback in his second season. Hurts led Philadelphia to the Super Bowl during the 2022 season, but the Chiefs defeated them.
Now, he has the opportunity to face the very team that halted his championship ambitions in the past, coming full circle in his career. It’s not a movie I’d be interested in since those can be incredibly cheesy and self-serving, but it’s certainly an idea from Herbstreit.
