The Kansas City Chiefs signed former New England Patriots quarterback Bailey Zappe to a one-year deal, according to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero on Friday.
Zappe was cut in August 2024, ending his tenure in New England. He was signed by the Chiefs to their practice squad as an ensuing move, before being signed by the Cleveland Browns to their active roster in October.
He started in the Browns’ season finale against the Baltimore Ravens and threw for 170 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
Now, he’ll join a defending AFC Champion Chiefs team with Patrick Mahomes and Gardner Minshew on the quarterback depth chart.
Zappe seems like a good bet as a practice squad stash for the Chiefs.
At the very least, it would give him an opportunity to continue learning the game behind the scenes from Mahomes and Chiefs coach Andy Reid.
