The dates of six Eagles OTA sessions have been announced. Meanwhile, DC Vic Fangio announces what Cooper DeJean’s role will be next season.
A successful road trip to New Orleans by our Philadelphia Eagles followed another trip to Mobile, Alabama’s Senior Bowl. Then came the annual NFL Scouting Combine. A new league year and free agency followed. We’ve since spent the remaining weeks before the 2025 NFL Draft discussing Top 30 visits and Pro Days.
Time has flown. We’d advise against blinking. The three-day extravaganza will come and go before you know it. Don’t stress, though. The fun is just beginning. You’ve probably learned by now the NFL is a 365-day-a-year watch with the only exception being that mini-vacation everyone takes before training camp.
Eagles news: The Eagles’ 2025 offseason workout program dates have been announced.
Merry Christmas, everyone! The NFL announced its nine-week offseason workout routine for all 32 teams. The Eagles’ training program is divided into three phases, including one rookie minicamp for first-year players and one mandatory minicamp for the entire roster.
The first two weeks encompass Phase One. That’s the first two weeks of the program. Activities are limited to physical rehabilitation, meetings, strength, conditioning, and the like.
The next three weeks of the program make up what’s known as Phase Two. On-field workouts, including individual and/or group instruction, make up the activities.
Phase Three comprises the final four weeks of the program. Teams are allowed to conduct ten days of organized team practice activities, which are referred to as ‘OTAs.’ Live contact isn’t allowed, but 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are all allowable.
Eagles OTAs begin on May 27, 2023. Mandatory minicamp will follow and begin on June 10.
More Eagles news: Vic Fangio discusses Cooper DeJean’s continuing role.
Here’s one you’ll want to spend some time checking out. NBC Sports Philly’s John Clark recently tracked down Vic Fangio during a Phillies game. As you might expect, the Eagles’ defense was discussed, as was one of its young stars, Cooper DeJean.
“I really like him as the nickel. I’d like to see him stay at nickel. He plays it very well. He’s got good size in there. I think he enjoys playing in that position.“ There you have it. Those were the words of Philly’s defensive coordinator.
With that, we put to bed a question we’ve heard asked a few times. Might Coop move to the outside corner position with Darius Slay’s departure?
By the looks of things, DeJean is staying in the slot. Slay’s replacement in the starting lineup could be on the roster (Kelee Ringo, Adoree’ Jackson). Then again, Philly could look to the NFL Draft. We’ll see if that happens. The next few weeks should be interesting.
