As days pass in the offseason, the Micah Parsons contract story grows. Parsons is expected to sign an extension with the Dallas Cowboys at some point before the 2025 season. But to this point, no significant progress has been made by either side.
Just a month before the NFL Draft, the conversations are still not flowing from the Cowboys’ side. NFL Network’s Jane Slater gave the latest on Wednesday, saying Dallas has yet to officially offer Parsons any kind of contract. A meeting did take place in Indianapolis during the NFL Combine but since then, nothing.
“Back from vacation and tapping in here ahead of The Insiders on NFL Network,” Slater said via X. “As things stand with Micah Parsons. No new news. What I can tell you is Jerry and Micah have talked many times this offseason but to say a contract offer has been extended to his representatives would be inaccurate. I’m told there was an initial meeting at combine with his team but since then nothing meaningful to report. His team remains ready to talk when Dallas does.”
Parsons does have one more season remaining on his rookie contract, a fifth-year option Dallas previously picked up. This has always been the offseason where an extension would be finalized, though. Getting the deal done with some urgency has been publicly made a priority to Parsons but based on the Cowboys actions, they do not have the same thought process.
Micah Parsons provides latest comment on DeMarcus Lawrence situation
Micah Parsons defended himself after former Dallas Cowboys teammate DeMarcus Lawrence questioned his work ethic on social media. While speaking to Clarence Hill of All City DLLS, Parsons said it’s “outrageous” for anyone to come after him for not being focused.
“I think it’s ridiculous,” Parsons said, per Pro Football Talk. “You watch the tape. There’s no question I’m locked in. I’m giving my actual best effort out there on the field, which I think that’s all that matters. I have an obligation to be the leader of my family, to take care of my family, and that’s to provide for them. I keep the main thing, the main thing. But I like off-field adventures, too.
“Everyone has their selection of how they want to deal with things. Some people drink. Some people smoke. I like to tweet. I like to be active and know about ball. I like to know what everyone else is doing. And that’s just me. I don’t drink. I don’t smoke. What I care about is the effort you give me on the football field, and that’s something you can’t question. I know I’m one of the best players and as long as I’m performing that way, it shouldn’t matter. When you jump offside on the goal line, is that because I’m tweeting? I think it’s ridiculous, outrageous.”
