It’s not uncommon for teams who have their draft picks scheduled to come in the later portion of the first round to look to trade out of that spot for additional value later in the Draft.
For a team like the Washington Commanders, that value isn’t just something they could consider, it’s something they desperately need.
Washington has just five picks upcoming during the 2025 Draft. The reason, of course, is because the organization opted to use much of their capital on proven starters like cornerback Marshon Lattimore, left tackle Laremy Tunsil, and wide receiver Deebo Samuel.
These players are expected to come in and provide an immediate impact for the Commanders and their championship hopes.
But that isn’t the only thing Washington needs.
Despite the perception that comes with having a young quarterback like Jayden Daniels, the Commanders are not a very young football team at all. In fact, the organization has the eighth-oldest roster in the sport currently with veterans like linebacker Bobby Wagner and tight end Zach Ertz in their twilight years.
That doesn’t mean Washington can’t come away with impact players in the draft.
What it does do, though, is it puts major pressure on the scouts and general manager Adam Peters to get those picks right. There is no margin for error with only five draft picks.
Essentially, if they get those picks right, they will be able to make do as a top contender.
If not, they will only get older and less reliable as an organization down the stretch.
