The Las Vegas Raiders are searching for depth at the wide receiver position.
Despite the passing attack clearly centering around All-Pro tight end Brock Bowers, the Raiders could use some more threats to prevent opposing defenses from keying in on him. Jakobi Meyers and Tre Tucker are both solid options, but their presences have not prevented analysts from projecting the team to go after some of the top pass-catchers on the market. With 2023 second-round tight end Michael Mayer on the trade block, the need for more depth could possibly be further amplified soon.
That has not stopped the Raiders from making a move to alter their receiving room.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Raiders will not tender the wide receiver, sending him to free agency.
Turner joined the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2021, but did not see much action until 2024. He hauled in 16 catches for 158 yards and a touchdown before being put on season-ending injured reserve on Dec. 3. With the lowest tender being worth $3.3 million, the Raiders decided that that money would be better used elsewhere.
While it is still possible for Turner to return to the Raiders at a lower rate, it is unlikely that he would hold any major role barring injury.
The Raiders have plenty of options to add difference-makers to their receiver room this offseason. While the Cincinnati Bengals took Tee Higgins off the market with the franchise tag, Chris Godwin of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers makes sense due to his connection with Raiders part-owner Tom Brady. The draft also boasts quality options at the top, with Arizona’s Tetairoa McMillan having top-10 potential and Texas’s Matthew Golden lighting up last week’s NFL Combine.
With Turner’s tenure with the Raiders currently at an end, his NFL future is up in the air.
