Not so fast! Aaron Rodgers, a 41-year-old soon-to-be free-agent quarterback, may not be quite ready to hang up his cleats on a historic career.
After two seasons with the New York Jets, which eventually turned sour with the team finishing with a dismal 5-12 record, the franchise decided to move in a different direction moving forward.
With AR-12 officially on the market, sources tell Pat Leonard of the New York Post that Rodgers prefers to play with the Los Angeles Rams and would even bring his favorite wideout, Davante Adams, with him to ‘Tinseltown’ once the Jets pass-catcher becomes a free agent himself.
Of course, this would be a dream scenario for Rodgers and company, but the Rams still need to sort out their current situation with Matthew Stafford. Reportedly, Stafford wants to be paid in the $50 million range which would be a slight pay bump compared to his current four-year, $160 million deal.
Head coach Sean McVay has recently voiced his interest in wanting the Super Bowl winning signal caller to return to the Rams.
The Rams have done a solid job revamping its roster with promising young talent lately, so trading for an aging QB that is a handful of years older than Stafford probably wouldn’t be a sustainable move.
Then again, if Stafford believes another team—other than the Rams—has deeper pockets to pay him what he wants, general manager Les Snead may find himself searching for a new quarterback under center. Tough decisions await the Rams in the very near future!
