Already dealing with an injury to Dereck Lively, the Dallas Mavericks saw Daniel Gafford sustain a knee problem prior to the All-Star break.
The team have also lost newly acquired star Anthony Davis to injury. While he wants to play at power forward, Davis is still one of the best in the league when lining up at center.
Dallas have now made a move to strengthen at the position on a temporary basis.
According to Shams Charania, the Dallas Mavericks are set to sign Moses Brown on a 10-day contract.
Moses Brown had previously been under contract to the Indiana Pacers, where he played nine games this season. During these games he averaged 5.1 minutes, averaging 3.2 points and 1.4 rebounds.
Brown stands at 7 ft 2″ and has previously played for the Portland Trail Blazers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Cleveland Cavaliers, LA Clippers and Brooklyn Nets.
He has also been with the Mavericks before, playing 26 games for the team during the 2021-22 season, before being waived by the team.
The 25-year-old has also been with G League team Westchester Knicks this season. He was an undrafted entry to the league with Portland in 2019.
Speaking earlier year about his move to the Pacers, Brown promised via Forbes: “We won’t get beat up on the boards as long as I’m in there. That probably is my main focus.”
But he was cut in early December and has been out of the NBA until now, pending passing a physical with the Mavs.
Moses Brown could suit up for four games, with the Mavs taking on the Pelicans, Warriors, Lakers and Hornets during this time.
The team also have recent signing Kylor Kelley, signed after he was cut by the South Bay Lakers. He has played seven games for the team.
Gafford’s injury stretches the Mavs’ options. They are a loaded team at the center position when everybody is healthy, but right now their options are desperately thin.
