The Carolina Panthers are positioned to make noise over the coming weeks. With free agency coming on Monday, rumors are flying around with Dave Canales’ team being mentioned with a lot to offer. How much exactly? About $31 million in cap space.
ESPN put together an evaluation of the different directions Carolina could go in free agency. Among the top concerns, the Panthers need defensive help in the worst way. But it doesn’t stop there.
“Targeting a top safety will be on the docket, and the Panthers also plan to fortify their defensive front. Even if they don’t go top-of-market at each spot, they will replenish the depth chart just about everywhere. Also, look for them to bring in a speedy wide receiver.”
Panthers president of football operations Dan Morgan and Canales are on board with how to approach this upcoming season. The defensive reboot is a must and everything beyond that being secondary. Carolina was one of the worst for points allowed and had 32 sacks, third-worst in the league.
Don’t be surprised if the Panthers make a splash or two on the open market and address other needs in the 2025 NFL Draft. Some of the names to watch closely next week will be pass rushers Joey Bosa and Josh Sweat, or defensive tackle Milton Williams. Any one of the three would set Carolina apart during this free agency period.
