Seattle Seahawks superstar D.K. Metcalf is seeking a fresh start after completing his sixth season with the NFC West club.
According to a report from Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the 27-year-old D.K. Metcalf has requested a trade out of Seattle. The report noted that the Seahawks have “decided to explore” a potential trade surrounding their star offensive player.
In the 2022 offseason, Metcalf and the Seahawks agreed to a three-year contract extension worth $72 million that kept him under contract through 2025. Less than three years later, however, the All-Pro wideout has decided that he wants a new home.
Metcalf caught 66 passes for 992 yards and five touchdowns despite missing two games in 2024. The 2019 second-round pick has recorded at least 900 receiving yards in each of his first six NFL seasons, including a career-high 1,303 in the 2020 campaign.
The Seahawks finished 10-7 in 2024, their best mark since 2020, but lost out on the NFC West division crown on a tiebreaker to the Los Angeles Rams. 2023 first-round pick Jaxon Smith-Njigba also replaced Metcalf as Seattle’s No. 1 receiver, catching 100 passes for 1,130 yards and six touchdowns.
Over his first six NFL seasons, D.K. Metcalf has 438 receptions for 6,324 yards and 48 touchdowns. In four playoff games, the big-bodied receiver has 26 catches for 451 yards and five scores.
Which Teams Should Target D.K. Metcalf?
The perennial Super Bowl-contending Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens immediately stand out as logical landing spots for Metcalf. KC and Buffalo are both searching for a No. 1 receiver, and Metcalf is still in his prime at age 27.
The Dallas Cowboys would have football’s best receiving tandem if they added Metcalf to the mix. The Green Bay Packers, as Josh Jacobs noted, desperately need a No. 1 receiver as well.
