The Dallas Cowboys certainly did not have the 2024 season they envisioned. The team ended with a 7-10 record and missed the playoffs. This resulted in the team parting ways with head coach Mike McCarthy and promoting Brian Schottenheimer to the position.
Now, with free agency and the 2025 NFL Draft just around the corner, the Cowboys have plenty of needs to fill. One of the biggest needs for the Cowboys is the running back position. Only five teams finished with fewer rushing yards in 2024 and Rico Dowdle is headed for free agency.
Andrew Buller-Russ of Sportsnaut recently predicted one bold move every NFL team will make this offseason. For the Cowboys, Buller-Russ suggested trading for New York Jets running back Breece Hall.
In 2024, Hall rushed for 876 yards with five touchdowns. The former second-round pick also caught 57 passes for 483 yards and three touchdowns. Obviously, Hall would be a massive upgrade on the ground for the Cowboys, but he would also help take some pressure off of CeeDee Lamb in the pass game.
Hall only played in seven games as a rookie in 2022 but has stayed healthy since then. The running back played in all 17 games in 2023 and 16 in 2024. So far, Hall has racked up 2,333 rushing yards with 14 scores over 40 career games despite the total dysfunction the Jets have experienced on offense during his time there.
The Jets’ asking price for Hall shouldn’t be outrageous considering the running back’s contract situation. The Cowboys may not want to enter the draft needing a starting running back, so calling about Hall makes sense.
