The Chicago Bears‘ head coaching search could accelerate in the days ahead after the latest eliminations in the divisional round of the 2024 NFL playoffs put several of this year’s top candidates on the market.
Starting Monday, the Bears — and other teams with head coaching vacancies — will have free reign to conduct in-person interviews with coordinators whose teams were eliminated during the weekend, which means Chicago could make a decision quickly.
And surprisingly, Bears strong safety Jaquan Brisker is rooting for an offensive hire.
“The best. But I would prefer offensive coach,” Brisker wrote Sunday on his X account. “So when we dominate and win, he stay…”
Brisker advocating for an offensive-minded head coach is a little surprising given his station as one of the team’s starting defenders.
That said, Brisker did have an opportunity to see what an offensive coach can bring to the table during his three seasons at Penn State under the successful James Franklin, who sports a 101-42 record.
Brisker also bore witness to the cultural collapse that unfolded in 2024 under former Bears head coach Matt Eberflus. Not only did Eberflus lose the locker room in his final season, but he also departed from his post with the third-worst winning percentage (30.4) in team history.
The Bears will have some great options if they want to hire an offensive coach. They have interviewed several offensive coordinators — including Detroit Lions mastermind Ben Johnson — along with former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy for the position thus far.
The question now is who will they ultimately pick for the job?
While he awaits an answer, Brisker will continue to focus on making his comeback for the Bears in 2025. He sustained a concussion in Week 5’s win over the Jacksonville Jaguars and missed the final 12 games of the season while dealing with symptoms.
Brisker has now sustained three known concussions in his short NFL career, but he also expressed confidence in his ability to return for the Bears next season.
“Imma be good! We back,” Brisker wrote to a fan on X asking about his health.
