The Dallas Cowboys are in the early stages of their coaching search but a “hot name” has already emerged for the gig.
The Cowboys interviewed Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore for the gig on Friday and according to Dianna Russini, Moore is the “hot name” around the team right now.
“There are some people around the league who say if you work under Jerry, he has to feel like he can control you,” Russini said, (first transcribed by Sports Illustrated). “Because Moore came up through Dallas as a coach, there’s going to be that loyalty and he understands it.”
Moore started as the Cowboys quarterbacks coach in 2018 before he was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2019. He held that role until 2022 before the Los Angeles Chargers hired him as their offensive coordinator for the 2023 season.
He was with the Chargers for one season before the Eagles hired him in the same role and it’s been a huge success. The Eagles have one of the best offenses in the league and are hoping to keep their playoff run going against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.
Moore was asked about the Cowboys job earlier this week and he told everyone that his main focus is on helping the Eagles advance to the NFC Championship Game next week.
“I spent a lot of time there, eight years there, so I have plenty of relationships in that place,” Moore said, via ProFootballTalk. “I love it here (in Philadelphia). I’ve had so much fun here. It’s been a really fun process, and we’re in a really special situation right now, getting the chance to play this Sunday, having a chance to make a run at this thing, and that’s really all you worry about.”
A deal between the Cowboys and Moore could come together fairly quickly if the Eagles get eliminated by the Rams on Sunday.
We’ll see how the rest of the search goes.
