The Los Angeles Rams still have some roster needs to address, and cornerback remains one of them—putting Miami Dolphins star Jalen Ramsey back in trade speculation.
According to ESPN’s Matt Bowen, while Ramsey—a seven-time Pro Bowler, Super Bowl LVI champion, and three-time All-Pro—may no longer be considered a “blue-chip” player, he still has value. Bowen named the Rams as the most logical trade destination for Ramsey.
“The Rams could benefit from his skill set,” Bowen wrote on May 19, citing Ramsey’s speed and playmaking ability as upgrades for the Rams’ secondary. “He’s still capable of matching receivers vertically and shows excellent vision in zone coverage.
His versatility would also help the Rams in sub-packages, where he can be disruptive from the nickel position.”
Bowen highlighted Ramsey’s 2024 performance with the Dolphins, where he recorded 11 pass deflections, 2 interceptions, 60 tackles (including 6 for loss), and 1.0 sack.
He also suggested the Rams likely wouldn’t have to give up much to bring Ramsey back. The team originally sent two first-round picks and a fourth-rounder to Jacksonville for him in 2019, but only received a third-round pick and a backup player when they traded him to Miami in 2023.
Former Coach Praises Jalen Ramsey’s IQ & Versatility
Former Rams assistant coach and current Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero spoke highly of Jalen Ramsey, highlighting his versatility and high football IQ.
His remarks support analyst Bowen’s view that Ramsey would be a great fit for the Rams in a potential trade.
“Jalen Ramsey is an incredibly talented player. What many don’t realize is how smart he is. He’s sharp when it comes to recognizing receiver alignments, quarterback mechanics, and footwork. He has a deep understanding of route combinations and run-game positioning. We used him in various roles—cornerback, nickel, and even dime linebacker—all within the same game, and he executed each flawlessly,”
“I’ve worked with many great players over the years, but I’ve never seen anyone with a higher football IQ.”
Evero’s praise serves as a reminder of Ramsey’s value during his time with the Rams and strengthens the case for pursuing him again.
Ramsey acknowledged the kind words and responded with appreciation.
“I’ve been fortunate to play alongside amazing teammates and coaches,” he wrote on X the same day. “Coach E is one of the real ones! A true football mind—he’ll be a head coach someday. Much respect.”
Rams HC Sean McVay ‘Would Never’ Close Door on Jalen Ramsey Trade
The Rams have fueled speculation about a possible trade involving Jalen Ramsey. Head coach Sean McVay spoke highly of Ramsey, noting that while bringing him back would involve many factors, he wouldn’t dismiss the idea.
“He’s a tremendous player, and we know him very well,” McVay said in April. “You can never rule out that possibility. There are a lot of complexities involved with someone of his caliber, including various surrounding factors.”
At an April press conference, Rams GM Les Snead confirmed he had trade discussions with the Dolphins but did not specify whether Ramsey was part of those talks.
Snead also mentioned that league-wide trade conversations were expected to gain momentum after the draft.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on NFL Live (May 14), a trade involving Ramsey—whether by the Rams or another team—is likely to occur in “early June,” mainly due to the financial structure of his contract.
Ramsey is currently in the final season of a five-year, $100 million deal, with a three-year, $72.3 million extension set to begin in 2026.
