Spring football better stay on the radar of Steelers talent evaluators.
Week 2 of the United Football League has come to a close, and it was full of big-time outings for their stars. It was a better week of football for the spring league after a rough start to their year. There were better games that saw the United Football League expose some talent across their operation. The Pittsburgh Steelers could be one team interested in some top players from this past week.
There were too many elite performances during these battles to name on this list. Some honorable mentions include Steele Chambers (LB, Memphis Showboats), Luis Perez (QB, Arlington Renegades), and Markel Roby (S, Houston Roughnecks). All three had fantastic games, but they just missed the list for this time around.
Expect Pittsburgh to keep an eye on possibly snagging some UFL talent once the season ends.
Pittsburgh Steelers must consider bringing in these UFL stars
Jonathan Adams, WR, Memphis Showboats
You cannot talk about the Memphis Showboats’ offense without mentioning Jonathan Adams. The veteran receiver is off to an outstanding start to the UFL campaign. He has amassed 221 receiving yards and a touchdown on the season. Adams has terrific size for the position as he towers at 6-3 and weighs 220 pounds. He would be a perfect addition to the Steelers’ roster.
Adams went undrafted during the 2021 NFL draft. He spent that training camp with the Detroit Lions before jumping into spring football. He has been in the UFL since, but if he keeps up this level of play, he will have plenty of teams calling him for an NFL opportunity. Pittsburgh could use some competition at the bottom of their roster, and Adams could be the perfect solution.
Kai Nacua, S, Michigan Panthers
If the name looks familiar, it’s because Puka Nacua’s brothers are playing for the Michigan Panthers this spring. Kai Nacua has become a staple in the UFL since last season. He is a brilliant veteran safety who could help the Steelers’ depth chart. He might not be a starter in the NFL, but he could help play a vital role as a depth piece going into training camp.
Adding someone like Nacua makes sense based on his football bloodlines alone. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is obsessed with football families, which could lead to an offer going in Nacua’s direction.
Pittsburgh could use some extra players to deploy at the safety position, and this United Football League veteran could help and apply some of his abilities on special teams.
Manny Wilkins, QB, St. Louis Battlehawks/Jacob Saylors, RB, St. Louis Battlehawks
Manny Wilkins has been terrific since becoming the starter for the St. Louis Battlehawks this season. He’s dominating the early MVP vote, and Wilkins deserves all his recognition. Steelers general manager Omar Khan said he wants four quarterbacks under contract by training camp. If they can’t sign Aaron Rodgers and snag one in the draft, adding Wilkins could provide an interesting wrinkle.
You cannot talk about the Battlehawks without mentioning their star running back, Jacob Saylors. He has shown his ability to play an all-around game at the position. The Steelers could use an extra running back or two on the roster before training camp hits, and Saylors could be a sneaky find. If he keeps up this pace, he could challenge Wilkins for the UFL MVP when it’s all said and done.
